Description

The Hohe Tauern with the Venediger, Granatspitz, Glockner, Schober and Goldberg groups are the highest mountains in Austria. Massive ice giants such as the Grossglockner - Austria's highest mountain at 3798 m - and the impressive pyramid of the Grossvenediger dominate the scenery. They form the backdrop for varied ski tours. Large parts of the Hohe Tauern have been under special protection as a national park since 1983. Ski mountaineers experience wonderful valleys, impressive waterfalls and the largest glaciers in the Eastern Alps. 42 day tours in the large mountain range are presented in the Rother ski touring guide - starting from the well-known huts and conveniently located valley resorts. In addition to the classic summit ascents to the "big celebrities" Großglockner and Großvenediger, which are of course not missing, numerous other attractive routes that lead high up are described, e.g. to the Großer Geiger, the Dreiherrnspitze or the Hohe Riffl. In the Goldberg group, Hocharn and Sonnblick are great spring tours. But there is also plenty on offer for the high winter and for ski tour beginners.

As an additional treat, three multi-day undertakings are presented, with the "Hochtirol" as a special highlight. On this extensive, six-day crossing, ski mountaineers can experience the whole range of the Hohe Tauern. For the multi-day tours, elevation profiles provide a compact overview of the route and stage classification.

The color-coded difficulty classification, clear route descriptions with all the important information, route maps at a scale of 1:50,000 and 1:75,000 with the route marked and a detailed route description for each tour make it easier to select and find your way on site. Exposure symbols show the prevailing slope directions of each route at a glance and help to assess the avalanche risk and snow quality. You can also see at a glance whether glacier experience and equipment is required for the route. Color photos illustrate the routes and make you want to experience the fascinating high mountain landscape on your own skis.
<p
