<p>The Valais Alps: by far the mightiest mountain range in the Alps is a true paradise for ski touring. The highest peaks in Switzerland can be found here - 43 four-thousand-metre peaks alone are gathered in this area, quite a few of which are also winter destinations for ski tourers. Challenging and high alpine routes dominate the offer for ski mountaineers. The spectrum of possibilities ranges from valley-based day tours to multi-day high alpine undertakings.</p><p>Daniel Häußinger has been traveling in this region for many years and knows the winter mountain world south of the Rhone in detail. And there is almost no need to say anything more about his co-author: Michael Waeber has already proven himself to be an intimate connoisseur of the Valais as the author of the Valais Alps area guide. The team of authors has put together a selection of 53 ski tours that offer an elemental, pristine mountain experience, even off the ski circus on pistes and from a helicopter.<br></p><p>The tour descriptions are clear and detailed, providing information on access points, valley locations, ascent times, altitude differences and huts, and the routes are described in all aspects such as exposure, avalanche risk and difficulty.
