Description

With the 126 routes included in this volume, you will cover not quite 3,000 kilometers by bike. It's a long journey that takes you from an altitude of 120 meters above sea level along the Milanese water channels to the peaks and passes of the Orobie, where the guide's "Cima Coppi" is to be conquered: the 2,612 meters above sea level of the Passo di Caronella.

Thanks to meticulous descriptions, detailed maps and the download of GPS tracks, you won't get lost. Your imagination can roam freely through pictures and stories, which the author has assigned to each individual route with plenty of dedication. A clear and practical graphic provides all the useful information on the double page of each route. The division of the routes into 13 homogeneous geographical zones facilitates orientation and the choice of the excursion that best suits your style, habits, physical condition and technical ability. You can gradually approach more difficult routes and pedal in any season.

For family outings with small children, there is a choice of 11 cycle routes covering an excellent 346 km of trails. You can also use part of this network of cycle paths as connections on the valley floor to return to the starting points of many of the 115 ring tours that we have dedicated to mountain biking. You are spoiled for choice: exactly 2,587 kilometers of trails, gravel roads and asphalt roads await you. The most diligent among you will be able to boast of having covered more than 110,000 meters of altitude at the end.

The novelty in this guide is the chapter dedicated to the network of cycle paths that connect Milan to the valleys and lakes of Lecco and Bergamo, necessary arteries for soft and sustainable mobility. We felt the need to provide a coherent overview of an existing and functioning network of footpaths and cycle paths, despite the partial lack of clear and functional signage for cyclists. We are impressed that the cycle routes, integrated with the mountain bike routes, are an important resource for the territory. We want to make a small contribution to the development of a slow and respectful tourism, a tourism that is attentive and curious about nature and beauty.

Maurizio Panseri was born in 1964. He has lived in Olera, a small historic village in the middle of the woods near Alzano Lombardo, a few kilometers from Bergamo, for over 20 years. Even as a child, he was interested in the mountains and explored the entire Alpine arc, but he felt particularly attached to "his" mountains, the Orobie and the Bergamo Prealps, which still amaze him today. His passion for mountain biking, with which he stubbornly wants to ride down every trail, accompanies his love of mountaineering, ski touring and climbing. He has always documented and recounted moments of his life in the mountains, on the rocks, on skis and on his bike. He has collaborated with numerous specialist magazines. All his "short stories" and what else he does can be read in Italian at www.vertical-orme.tv.
